Name: Sura Al Fateh
Meaning: The Victory
Recited By: Yasser Al Dosari
Sura Al Fateh was revealed in Madina consists of 29 Ayat and 4 Raku and the 48th Chapter of Holy Quran(26th Para)
We mention some famous incidents related to Sura Al Fateh
1. Narrated to Hazrat Usman (the son of Muhib) :
An Egyptian who came and performed the Hajj to the Kabah saw some people sitting. He enquires, “Who are
these people?” Somebody said, “They are the tribe of Quraish.” He said, “Who is the old man sitting amongst
them?” The people replied, “He is `Abdullah bin `Umar.” He said, “O Ibn Umar! I want to ask you about
something; please tell me about it. Do you know that `Usman fled away on the day (of the battle) of Uhud?”
Ibn Umar said, “Yes.” The (Egyptian) man said, “Do you know that `Usman was absent on the day (of the
battle) of Badr and did not join it?” Ibn Umar said, “Yes.” The man said, “Do you know that he failed to
attend the Ar Rizwan pledge and did not witness it (Hudaibiya pledge of allegiance)?” Ibn Umar said, “Yes.”
The man said, “Allahu Akbar!” Ibn Umar said, “Let me explain to you (all these three things). As for his
flight on the day of Uhud, I testify that Allah has excused him and forgiven him; and as for his absence
from the battle of Badr, it was because the daughter of Allah’s Messenger Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was his
wife and she was sick then. Allah’s Messenger Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said to him, “You will receive the same
reward and share (of the booty) as anyone of those who participated in the battle of Badar (if you stay with
her).’ As for his absence from the Ar-Ridwan pledge of allegiance, had there been any person in Makkah more
respectable than Usman (to be sent as a representative). Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) would have sent him
instead of him. No doubt, Allah’s Messenger Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) had sent him, and the Ar-Rizwan pledge of
Allegiance incident happened after Usman had gone to Makkah. Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) held out his right
hand, saying, ‘This is `Usman’s hand.’ He stroke his (other) hand with it, saying, ‘This (pledge of
allegiance) is on behalf of `Usman. Then Ibn `Umar said to the man, ‘Bear (these) excuses in mind with
you.’
(Sahih al-Bukhari: 3698)
2. Narrated Al-Bara:
Do you (people) consider the conquest of Makkah the Victory (referred to in the Quran 48:1)? Was the
conquest of Makkah a victory? We believe that the actual Victory was the Ar-Rizwan Pledge of allegiance,
which we gave on Al-Hudaibiya (to the Prophet). On the day of Al-Hudaibiya, we were fourteen hundred men
along with the Prophet (PBUH) Al-Hudaibiya was a well, the water we used up, leaving not a single drop of
water in it. When the Prophet (PBUH) was informed of that, he came and sat on its edge. Then he asked for a
utensil of water, performed ablution from it, rinsed (his mouth), invoked (Allah), and poured the remaining
water into the well. We stayed there for a while, and then the well brought forth what we required of water
for ourselves and our riding animals.
(Sahih al-Bukhari: 4150)
3. Narrated to Abdullah bin Abu Aufa who said:
The Companions of the Tree (those who swore allegiance under the tree) were one thousand and three hundred,
and the people of the Aslam tribe were one-eighth of the Muhajirs.
(Sahih Muslim: 1857)
4. Narrated to Hazrat Anas (RA):
“While the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was returning from Al-Hudaibiyyah, it was revealed to him, ‘That Allah
may forgive you your sins of the past and the future (48:2).’ So the Prophet (PBUH) said: ‘An Ayah has been
revealed to me which is dearer to me than whatever is upon the earth.’ Then the Prophet (PBUH) recited it
for them, and they said: ‘Congratulations O Messenger of Allah! Allah has explained what He will do with
you, but what will He do with us?’ So (the following) was revealed: ‘That He may admit the believing men and
the believing women into Gardens under which rivers flow’ up to (His Saying) a supreme success.
(Jamia at-Tirmidhi: 3263)
In this Surah, Allah Almighty explained The Victory (at Ḳhaibar) the earnestness of the pardon of the sins of the Holy Prophet Companions. The mighty Allah is the comforter of true believers but the punisher of hypocrites. Loyalty to Muhammad is loyalty to Allah. Bedouin Arabs were denounced for their treachery at Hudaibiyah and their subsequent hypocrisy. The Bedouin Arabs refused a share of the booty taken at Ḳhaibar but encouraged with promises. Those alone excused from going to war who are incapacitated.
