Name: Surah Al-Rehman
Meaning: The Most Gracious
Recited By: Mansoor Mohiuddin
Surah Al-Rehman was revealed in Makkah consists in 78 Ayat 3 Raku and 55th Chapter of Holy Quran(27th Para).
We mention some famous incidents related to Surah Al-Rehman
1. Narrated to Abdullah bin Abbas reported that:
He spent (one night) in the house of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). He (the Holy Prophet) got up, brushed
his teeth, performed ablution, and said: “In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation
of the night and the day, there are indeed signs for people of understanding” to the end of the Surah. He
then prayed two rak’ahs, standing, bowing, and prostrating himself at length in them. Then he finished, went
to sleep, and snored. He did that three times, six rakats altogether, cleaning his teeth, performing
ablution, and reciting these verses. Then he observed three rakats of Witr. The Mu’adhdhin then pronounced
the Adhan, and he went out for prayer and was saying: O Allah! place light in my heart, light in my tongue,
place light in my hearing, place light in my eyesight, place a light behind me, and light in front of me,
and place the light above me, and light below me. O Allah! grant me light.
(Sahih Muslim: 763)
2. Hazrat Abu Dharr Ghaffari narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
“Indeed, I see what you do not see, and I hear what you do not hear. The Heavens moan, and they have the
right to moan. There is no spot, the size of four fingers in them, except that an angel is placing his
forehead in it, prostrating to Allah. By Allah! If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and cry
much. And you would not taste the pleasures of your women in the beds, and you would go out beseeching
Allah. And I wish that I was but a felled tree.” There are narrations on this topic from ‘Ayesha, Abu
Hurairah, Ibn e Abbas, and Anas. [He said:] This Hadith is Hasan Gharib. It has been related through routes
other than this that Abu Dharr said: “I wish that I was a felled tree.” And it has been described from Abu
Dharr in Mawquf form.
(Jamia at-Tirmidhi: 2312)
3. Narrated to Muhammad bin Jubair bin Mutim that:
From his father who said: “The moon was split during the time of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) until it
became as two sections, one above this mountain and one above that mountain. So they said: ‘Muhammad has
cast a spell upon us.’ Some of them said: ‘If he could cast a spell upon us, he can not cast a spell upon
all people.
(Jamia at-Tirmidhi: 3289)
In this Surah, Allah explained that Nuh, Ibrahim, Lut, Shuaib, Hud, Saleh, Musa, and Muhammad all were prophets of Allah. All of them endured hardships. Hardships prove religious faith. Evil deeds will surely be punished. The righteous shall be rewarded for their good deeds—parents not to be obeyed when they oppose Allah’s law. Hypocrites exposed and rebuked. Unbelievers shall be punished for deceiving others by false promises.
